Stuck for a gift for your other half this Valentine’s day? Why not surprise them with homemade Real Wine Gums.
For a step by step video guide on how to make these Real Wine Gums see the video at the bottom of the page.
For this recipe you will need:
In a saucepan warm the wine on a low heat, if you have too high a temperature you will boil out the alcohol so keep it low and slow. Once the wine is warmed through add the gelatine 1 tablespoon at a time and stir until it is fully dissolved. After all of the gelatine is completely dissolved then add the maple syrup (it’s best to add 1 tablespoon at a time then taste).
Once you have stirred the maple syrup in and reached the right level of sweetness for your mixture, it’s time to pour the mixture into the moulds. You can either choose an ice cube mould (this is the more difficult of the 2 to get the jellies out) or place the mixture in a shallow dish and use a cookie cutter to stamp out the shapes.
Refrigerate the mixture for at least 3-4 hours to make sure it sets well (you want it more of a gummy bear texture than a bowl of jelly). Once the mixture is completely firm, press the wine gums out of the mould (this may require you to score the sides with a knife) and slice them up so they’re thinner and easier to eat.
You can keep them refrigerated or wrap them up in a nice box, don’t worry they won’t melt.
